Blackhawk Network is seeking a seasoned lawyer with a broad range of experience to handle a wide range of matters. The ideal candidate will join a very collegial, high caliber legal team. The Sr. Corporate Counsel position requires a self-motivated, flexible candidate, with a business-oriented approach, excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage ever changing priorities/tasks and a range of job functions. The successful candidate will be able to perform all functions with a high level of independence, initiative, discretion, accuracy, and attention to detail. She/he will work as a team member on a daily basis, retain and manage work of outside counsel to ensure delivery of high quality, costs-effective legal services. Experience as a lawyer in a dynamic in-house or similar environment is strongly preferred.
Qualifications: The following are required unless specifically stated:
- California Bar Membership strongly preferred.
- 9 years as a practicing lawyer with a minimum of 5 years in-house experience, both strongly preferred
- Experience working in a legislative office, or relevant experience at a trade association, a plus.
- Experience working in banking or financial service industry, a plus.
- Experience working with intellectual property, a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Able to formulate creative, practical legal and business solutions.
- Able to work independently, with minimal supervision.
- Excellent problem solving skills.
- Superior oral and written communication skills.
- Computer literate.
Key Responsibilities:
The key responsibilities will depend on the background and experience of the candidate, but may include one or more of the following:
Legislative/Regulatory. Analyze legislative and regulatory proposals, draft proposed legislation, regulations and amendments at state and federal levels regarding gift cards, prepaid telecom and other prepaid services:
- Participate in industry associations and coalitions, government and industry meetings, hearing and other public forums.
- Assist in the formulation of Blackhawks public policy positions.
- Provide counsel to management regarding federal and statute statues, regulations, court options, administrative procedures and legal proposals.
Commercial/Transactional. Negotiate and draft commercial contracts, and provide strategic legal counsel, primarily in the following areas:
- Gift card, prepaid telecom and other prepaid services
- IT & Information Security, data privacy and security
- Marketing and strategic alliances
- Supply and distribution
- Software and technology licenses
- Consumer protection, advertising, sweepstakes, pricing, unfair competition
- E-commerce
Education:
- Law Degree from well-regarded undergraduate and law schools strongly preferred.
