JOB DESCRIPTION
Microsoft, the world leader in software for personal and business computing, has an immediate opening for an experienced Senior Litigation Attorney to join the Legal and Corporate Affairs Division (LCA) to work on cutting edge litigation and trial issues. This position will manage e-discovery issues and a variety of litigation matters, and will have experience in complex commercial litigation and some or all of the following - antitrust; securities; copyright and trademark; employment; and general commercial litigation.
Primary responsibilities include management of assigned cases, including formation of the litigation team and litigation strategy, oversight of all litigation activities, marshalling of internal facts, review and editing of all written advocacy and preparation of outside counsel for oral argument and trial, and in all other ways exercising primary responsibility of representation of Microsoft. The Sr. Litigation Attorney will engage in frequent and regular communication with outside counsel and with other LCA attorneys, paralegals and staff and with Microsoft employees and executives. In addition to directing outside counsel in these case types mentioned above, the Sr. Litigation Attorney will support a number of e-discovery initiatives, help coordinate Microsoft’s strategies for e-discovery responses, represent Microsoft in various e-discovery organizations, and advise Microsoft product groups that are building e-discovery tools into their products. This incumbent will serve as an advocate for reasonable rules regarding e-discovery at various conferences and within working groups, and will help draft comments on proposed rules and legislation.
Qualifications to include:
• JD from an ABA accredited law school, and outstanding academic credentials;
• A minimum of 8 years of demonstrated work experience in general litigation, including first chair responsibility in some cases and trial experience;
• Significant experience in complex commercial litigation is required and some additional experience in copyright and trademark, antitrust and/or securities litigation is strongly preferred;
• Significant and demonstrated e-discovery experience is ideal;
• A demonstrated ability to direct creatively and effectively the defense of a sophisticated client in complex litigation;
• Knowledge and understanding of trial presentation techniques;
• Ability to partner effectively in a team environment, and work with multiple interdependencies; and,
• Excellent oral and written communication skills
