The Creative Team at Upwork is a tight-knit group that believes in not taking ourselves too seriously, creating awesome stuff, and having fun. We get the opportunity to work on a wide range of interesting projects including interactive design, advertising, environmental design, video, motion graphics, print collateral, and event graphics.

We are looking for an outstanding Associate Creative Director, Brand Messaging and Copywriting to join our team to help us define the Upwork brand. You will manage a team of freelancers to craft innovative copy across multiple projects at a rapidly growing company.

Yourresponsibilities:

  • Help define, iterate, and enforce our brand vision, benefits, character, and positioning company wide.
  • Lead design thinking workshops and project definition activities.
  • Work with a project manager to estimate project timeframes and balance great copywriting with meeting deadlines.
  • Bring a positive and can-do approach to solving large, strategic, and complex problems with simple and elegant solutions that address project goals & requirements.
  • Utilize business and customer insights to create original and innovative copy while adhering to our brand guidelines.
  • Autonomously run all aspects of assigned projects with minimal direction and collaborate with and present directly to business owners.
  • Clearly and confidently communicate and present copy decisions, gather and implement feedback from project owners and designers, and manage project owner's expectations.
  • Direct the work of a group of 3+ freelance copywriters.

What It Takes To Catch Our Eye:

  • 6+ years of experience as a practicing copywriter or similar role.
  • An outstanding portfolio demonstrating the skills above. Please include a link to your portfolio; applicants without a portfolio will not be considered.

How To Really Knock Our Socks Off:

  • A mix of agency and in-house experience.
  • Advertising writing experience.
  • Interactive design writing experience.
